Troubleshooting - Steam download speed drops to zero constantly

I am simply going to document here the solution to a common problem I ran into in case it helps anyone.

Symptoms of this specific solution

• You are sure that your network is not causing a bottleneck
• You are sure that your disk is not causing a bottleneck
• Download speed drops to zero constantly, if you pause and resume the download the same thing happens again.

Solution

Disable write cache cache in Windows device manager.

1. Open Windows Device Manager and locate your disk drivers

2. Click Properties of the drive where you are downloading the games. In the policies tab, uncheck the option “Enable write caching on the device”

And that’s it!
